Jordan Rugby has reached a pivotal milestone by securing full membership status in World Rugby, the sport’s global governing body. This significant development, announced at the World Rugby Council meeting on May 9, 2024, positioning Jordan as a rising force in the international rugby scene.
Feisal Al Sadoun, Chairman of Jordan Rugby, expressed his enthusiasm about this historic achievement. “Today is a landmark day for Jordanian rugby as we step onto the global stage as full members of World Rugby. Our journey from modest beginnings to this significant milestone has been propelled by the dedication of our players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters. We’ve laid a solid foundation, forged vital partnerships, and now set the stage for enduring success,” stated Sadoun.

Aziz Zakaria, Secretary-General of Jordan Rugby, also emphasized the transformative nature of this milestone. “Gaining full membership opens a new chapter for Jordanian rugby, enhancing our opportunities for sport growth and development within Jordan. We are committed to elevating our performance, both on and off the field, aiming to qualify for prestigious events like the Rugby World Cup and Olympics. We believe that with dedication and strategic actions, we can turn our ambitious vision into reality.”
World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont expressed his congratulations, stating, “We are delighted to welcome the Montenegro Rugby Union to the World Rugby family and congratulate both Jordan and Morocco on their full member status. The expansion of World Rugby’s membership to 133 countries across all six regions reflects the global growth and diversification of the sport, driven by the increasing participation in women’s rugby and rugby sevens worldwide.
